Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Department: Facilities
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary
Self-motivated and self-directed individual with strong Industrial Maintenance background in a machining manufacturing environment. Performs maintenance and repairs on machines in a manufacturing setting and must have a proficient understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist operations, engineering, and other employees in identifying opportunities for equipment maintenance and improvements.
  • Assemble or disassemble complex mechanical systems.
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Verify that equipment is being operated and maintained according to quality assurance standards by observing worker performance.
  • Mechanical skills and knowledge of plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and other building systems.
  • Proficiency with repair tools and techniques.
  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs.
  • Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications.
  • Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
  • Inventory and requisition machine parts, equipment, and other supplies so that stock can be maintained and replenished.
  • Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate operations.
  • Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment according to specified procedures.
  • Collect and discard worn machine parts and others refuse to maintain machinery and work areas.
  • Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
  • Replace, empty, or replenish machine and equipment containers such as gas tanks or boxes.
  • Replace or repair metal, wood, leather, glass, or other lining in machines, or in equipment compartments or containers.
  • Remove hardened material from machines or machine parts, using abrasives, power and hand tools, jackhammers, sledgehammers, or other equipment.
  • Measure, mix, prepare, and test chemical solutions used to clean or repair machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain engines, conveyors, electrical systems, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinery, pneumatic tools and hydraulic equipment.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment installed and set up for the manufacturing operation. Perform preventive maintenance work per the established schedule and standards and assist in condition monitoring.
  • Transport material and components with the use of a hand transport or forklift as needed.
  • Perform basic hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical troubleshooting/repair on machinery and assembly equipment within the facility.
  • Fabricate various carts, fixtures, workstations etc. for production needs.
  • Maintain work area to 5S standards for organization, housekeeping and inspection. Assist others as needed to support 5S.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Participates in maintaining the groundskeeping, scrap removal and janitorial crew.
  • Demonstrates excellence in completion of all other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic devices necessary for routine troubleshooting and repair.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Industrial Technology training or 3-4 years of hands-on experience.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years working as a Maintenance Technician

Education/Certification

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree with 4-year experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience recommended.

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position

  • Manufacturing environment – temperature controlled.
  • Works within a manufacturing setting and exposed to coolant fumes.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, push, pull and lift on a regular basis for long periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $39.00 per hour
